Frankfurt, the city of the banks (Germany)

For the month of December 2022, I wanted to escape again but not too far.

I wanted to go abroad without having to take a plane, so I set out to find a city that could be visited by train and that wouldn't take too long to travel.

Frankfurt was the perfect city because it's located 3h50 from Paris by train; moreover, I've never visited Germany, so it was an opportunity to go there for a weekend.

So I took the train at Gare de l'Est on Friday 9 December 2022 at 7:06 pm and arrived at Frankfurt am Main at 10:59 pm.

The return journey took place on Sunday 11 December at 06:49 am and arrived at 10:38 am in Paris.

Day 1

When I arrived in Frankfurt, I headed to my hotel, which is about a 5 minute walk from the train station.

Having arrived at night, I did nothing and went to bed to be in fine fettle the next day.

Day 2

I started my day walking around downtown.

I passed the Oper Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Opera.

I continued my walk until I reached the Struwwelpeter-Brunnen fountain and then the Christmas market.

Then I went to the Kleinmarkthalle, a covered market with food, flowers, wine and much more.

I then passed by St. Paul's Church and then on St. Paul's Square.

I then headed to the Römerberg, the central square of Frankfurt's medieval quarter, before picking up my ticket for the cruise on the Main that I had booked for the afternoon.

After picking up my ticket, I went to the Schwarzer Stern restaurant where I had booked.

I ordered a braised beef which was excellent and served with red cabbage, apples and potatoes; typically German dish.

After lunch, I headed to the harbour for the activity I had booked.

After the cruise on the Main, I went back to St. Barthélemy's Cathedral and walked around the city and then went back to the hotel to rest a bit.

Then I went out for dinner at Salzkammer, a typical Austrian restaurant.
