Amiens, the little Venice of the North (France)

After the trip to Dijon, I didn’t want to stop there and I took a ticket to Amiens. What decided me to choose this city were the half-timbered houses but also the colourful houses that remind me of Amsterdam, a city I would love to visit.

So I took the TER at Gare du Nord on the evening of May 21; the journey lasted 1 hour.

The day after my arrival, I walked along the Somme, the river crossing the city, and then in the Saint-Leu district where I was able to discover some pretty colourful houses.

Not far from there is the bar 9 3/4Harry Potter fans take note! Unfortunately, the bars are closed due to the sanitary situation, I would have liked to got there. I consoled myself by thinking that I did Harry Potter Park in Orlando (USA) and Warner Bros Studios in London.

Then, going to places of worship with the Church of Saint-Leu, the House of the Pilgrim and the famous Cathedral of Notre-Dame d’Amiens.

Then walk along some pretty streets (the rue du Don and the rue Adéodat Lefèvre) to finish in the parc de l'Evêché located right next to the cathedral.

We continue the walk with Marie Sans Chemise (Dewailly Tower), the Belfry of Amiens and the Church of Saint-Germain.

Walk again through pretty streets to land in the Jardin des Plantes then the Jardin Médiéval located in front of the cathedral.

As the rain decided to show up, I stopped by Jean Trogneux, famous for its famous Amiens macaroons, and indeed, they were delicious. I had a hot chocolate, a Liège waffle with whipped cream, and an assortment of macaroons (violet, lemon, raspberry, pistachio and trognella which is a spread from the house Trogneux).

Once satisfied, I headed towards place Saint-Michel and the Perret Tower.

The two places that follow are my favorites, they are the English district and the Hortillonnages.
Many of the Amienese houses have a very British style with their oriels, as for the Hortillonnages, they guarantee a nice walk along the banks of the Somme, one would feel a little in Venice.
I travelled part of the Hortillonnages in Amiens and in the town of Rivery.

After these beautiful walks, I finished the day at Parc Saint-Pierre before returning to the hotel.
