The Capital of Christmas (Strasbourg, France)

For Christmas break 2016, my mother and I took a train to go to Strasbourg, the Capital of Christmas!

To celebrate Christmas Eve differently, we took the TGV on Saturday, december 24th and stayed in Strasbourg until the next Thursday (29th). Here is another city to add to our mother/daughter trips all around France!

Why do we call Strasbourg the "Capital of Christmas"? Well, because in 1570, the first edition of the oldest Christmas market in Europe took place in Strasbourg.

Strasbourg is a bike friendly city, there are many cycle paths.

We walked in the historical district la Petite France, crossed the Barrage Vauban where you can access to a panoramic terrace, ate at the Pont Saint Martin,  crossed the Quai Saint Thomas et many more.

Day 1

Quai Marc Bloch

The quai Marc Bloch was near our hotel-apartment (5 min by foot).
From the bridge we could see the Modern Art Museum with all its colors.

Place Hans-Jean Arp

The place Hans-Jean Arp, located next to the quai Marc Bloch, gives access to the Vauban flood barrier.

From the terrace you have a beautiful view on the Petite France, the historical district in Strasbourg.

Ponts Couverts

The ponts Couverts give access to the Petite France district.

Petite France

The Petite France is the historical district in Strabourg. The half-timbered houses are typical. There are very good restaurants. Au Pont Saint Martin restaurant is excellent with its typical beverages and dish: sauerkraut, Fisher beer, tarte flambée with apples and calvados, etc.
